The Power Of Self Reflection

Reflection_Article_FaceWho am I?
Why am I here?
Who will I become?
What is my Destiny?
What is my true nature?
Where do we come from?
Which solutions will help me to break through my current challenges?
What good can come from all this negative that I’m perceiving?

To these, and a myriad of other vital questions, is it possible that the answers and solutions could already be present in the depths of our own minds. Self Reflection is the process by which we come to observe, examine and explore the content of our own unique inner world. It may be used to gain insight into current challenges, to uncover hidden dreams and potentials, to gain deeper insight, self understanding and growth, to evolve and expand our worldview, or to explore the nature of the soul and the deeper meanings of life.

Is seeking therapy a sign of weakness?

Fotolia_TherapyDespite the fact that the twentieth century was greatly defined by advances in psychology and psychotherapy, it’s apparent that we are still resistant to exploring it’s benefits in our own lives. Therapy is still taboo, it seems. For some, therapy represents the ultimate loss of integrity, a sign of weakness, an absolute last resort, whereas others find therapy to be effective, helpful, even life changing. Perhaps most of us simply have a distorted view of the full value and purpose of therapy, and don't see it's potential as a pathway to a more fulfilling and independent life.

Today we're seeking the answers from an experienced psychotherapist and author on the topic from the U.K.

Enter Philippa Perry.

A Great Discovery

Fotolia_9041205_XSThere is an inherent balance conserved in the Past and Future.

If one takes the time during contemplation or meditation to reflect upon moments of his or her past, then through the light of true and sincere reflection one may come to the realization without the least amount of doubt that their entire life leading up to this very moment has been infused and permeated with a purposeful directionality and all events hitherto have served to lead him to the fulfilment of his own telos.

The very things that were once labelled as ‘bad’ or ‘terrible’ - through the light of sincere reflection now allow him to see the springboard with which these events provided him, to move him back on to the path of discovery of his ultimate purpose, and alas the very things that were once labelled as ‘good’ or as a ‘blessing’ were really mere attachments distracting him from following the path of his authentic and ultimate purpose.

Exploring FEAR, and how to dissolve it.

Fear“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” - Franklin D Roosevelt

The emotional feeling of FEAR is an experience we often prefer to avoid as it brings up from deep within us, feelings of helplessness and hopelessness, which can often stop us in our tracks. Along with this can come a plethora of physiological and psychological effects such as rapid and irregular heartbeats or palpitations, chest tightening, sweaty palms, increased blood pressure, all of which are due to the activation of the fight and flight response in our physiology. From a psychological perspective, fear can cause us to make irrational or illogical decisions, and cause pre-rational behavioral characteristics and reactionary emotional based decisions. In extreme cases fear can cause temporary paralysis or even complete immobilization of the physical body.

So just what is fear, what causes it, and is there anything that can be done to reduce or eliminate it?

Multiple Intelligences and Lines of Development

Fotolia_14968805_S Have you ever wondered when you compare yourself to friends or family, that your family members or friends appear to excel in different areas than yourself, and yet also appear to lack in development of other areas in contrast to yourself? Or have you ever wondered what it is that causes young children to still believe in mythical tales of Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy? Or why a religious fundamentalist may strongly believe that Moses literally parted the Red Sea? Where as you for some reason attempt to explain these mythical ideas with some sort of logical rationality? Well, one of the main reasons for this is to do with what Howard Gardner originally termed Multiple Intelligences, and the great thing about the theory of multiple intelligences, is that they help us to better understand and embrace the differences amongst various people. It reminds us that we are all intelligent in our own particular way, and just because we may not excel in maths or an IQ test, this by no means justifies a belief that we are not intelligent. So let’s now take a brief look at Multiple Intelligences and just how they affect us and how they shape our reality and view of the world.
